Background:
Diego was a thoughtful and curious 10th-grade high schooler with a 3.3 GPA who loved robotics, gaming, and technology. However, he was naturally shy in class and had not yet taken on leadership roles or standout activities.
His family was first-generation college, and the entire process felt intimidating. Finances were tight, and his parents worried constantly about whether a four-year college education would even be possible.
